Typography is a medium that scares me but I can’t stay away from it.

In 2018, I discovered Octane Render and 36 days of Type was about to happen; it was the perfect time for me to enter in the 36 days of type event and really try Octane for the first time.

The only catch is I had only 2 hours per day to do the visual with a new engine I didn’t quite fully know. Here’s a selection of visuals.

  • After Effects
  • Photoshop
  • Cinema 4D
  • Octane Render
  • Illustrator

What is 36 days of type?

36 Days of Type is a project that invites designers, illustrators and graphic artists to express their particular interpretation of the letters and numbers of the Latin alphabet. A yearly open call exploring the creative boundaries of letterforms, where participants are challenged to design a letter or number each day for 36 consecutive days, as a global and simultaneous act showing the outcome of the ability to represent the same symbols from thousands different perspectives. A project that aims to be a space for creation around typography and its endless graphic possibilities.

What if I want to join?

For each edition, participants share their artworks via Instagram, by uploading their creations to their profiles and using the project’s hashtags to submit their work and enter the challenge. From all the daily entries, a curated selection of artworks is handpicked by our team to be published on the 36 Days of Type official account for each day and for every letter and number until the end of the challenge. In addition, once each official round is over, all the series done during the edition will be also eligible to be showcased in the project accounts, as a way to promote the work from the artists taking part. So if you can make the 36 days in a row, that’s the big challenge! But in case you want to participate only for few days or just a single letter or number, do it your way and just remember to check the calendar first.
